One long, continuous undulating pattern stretching the entire length of Nazaré’s promenade. Created using the traditional Portuguese paving technique known as calçada portuguesa. For the locals, it’s the most ordinary thing in the world. For me, as a newcomer, it’s a dragon-like mosaic, a winding pattern of cube-shaped pieces of white limestone and black basalt. It reminds me every time of the truth of ceaseless change in our life.

NORTH
